WordPress Home Page vs Blog Page: Set Each Correctly

Stop the common confusion between a designed home page, a list of posts, and a single article.

Quick answer

Stop the common confusion between a designed home page, a list of posts, and a single article.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Step 01

Under Pages, create and publish a page named Home with your desired hero, category blocks and introduction.

  2. Step 02

Create another published page named Blog; leave its content empty if you plan to designate it as the automatic posts page.

  3. Step 03

Go to Settings → Reading where available and choose a static home page: Homepage → Home; Posts page → Blog.

  4. Step 04

If your block theme uses a Site Editor front-page template, inspect Design/Appearance → Editor → Templates → Front Page before making edits.

  5. Step 05

Build a navigation menu with Home pointing to the root homepage and Blog pointing to the posts list.

  6. Step 06

Write articles under Posts → Add New, not inside your Home page body.

  7. Step 07

On Home, add a Query Loop showing recent posts so visitors see previews without duplicate copies of articles.

  8. Step 08

Test Home, Blog and Read More in a logged-out browser to make sure each destination is different.

Before you finish: important checks

  • One published post can appear as a preview on Home and in the list on Blog without duplicate posting.

Common problems and fixes

  • Home link opens a post? Review the menu item's actual URL and the site's homepage setting.
  • Blog shows nothing? Confirm posts are published and your posts page/query settings are correct.

Frequently asked questions

Will a post appear twice in Google?

A preview link to a post is normal; the full article should have one canonical URL.
